“Mad Professor”

Mad Professor (born Neil Joseph Stephen Fraser, 1955, Georgetown, Guyana) is a Guyanese dub music producer and engineer known for his original productions and remix work. He is considered one of the leading producers of dub music’s second generation and was instrumental in transitioning dub into the digital age.

Neil Fraser dismantled and reassembled the radio at the age of 10 and started producing music professionally around 1979 in Guyana, and since then has been integral in shaping the journey of the Reggae genre by being one of the first persons “to do electronic dub in life”.

‘Reggae’ is music which originated in the island of Jamaica,which started and evolved around the time Jamaica got its independence from colonialism in 1962. It started as ska, evolved into rocksteady and then around 67-68, it developed into reggae. Artist from that time, according to Fraser, consciously or unconsciously, ingrained this form of music into a national identity during that time.
